Every 7,500 Miles
At 7,500 miles, your Ram 1500 will be due for its first service. This service should include some preventative maintenance services and inspections to ensure your truck's performance. The first service is an oil change to ensure that the oil continues to provide proper lubrication to help your engine run smoothly. Additionally, the tires should be rotated to prevent any uneven wear to the tread. Additionally, there are a few items that should be inspected at this service, including the exhaust system, suspension system, braking system, drive belts, hoses, battery, and alternator. As your Ram 1500 ages, these services and inspections should take place at the same 7,500-mile intervals. However, if you use your truck to pull heavy cargo or for off-roading, these services should occur more frequently, approximately every 6,000 miles.
Every 15,000 Miles
As you cross 15,000 miles, there are a few things that experts recommend having looked at to ensure the quality. First, you should have the air conditioning system inspected and the cabin air filter replaced to continue getting clean air coming through the vents at the right temperature. Next, you should have the levels and conditions of the differential fluids, power steering fluid, and transmission fluids checked. The fuel system, including the connections, fuel lines, and filters, should also be inspected. Next, the wiper blades should be checked and replaced if they are cracked or torn. Lastly, the headlights, tail lights, and turn signals should be tested for proper operation.
Every 30,000 miles
After another 15,000 miles, as you pass 30,000 miles, there are a few other things to take care of and check on. First, the engine air filter should be replaced at this time. Additionally, the front and rear axles should be checked for leaks and/or damage to ensure their proper operation. The brake fluid should also be evaluated and flushed if it is low or contaminated by water and copper. At this time, you should also have the spark plugs inspected and replaced if necessary, as contaminated spark plugs can cause a misfire, causing rough engine operation and a check engine light.
50,000 Miles and Beyond
As your vehicle crosses the 50,000-mile mark, you're most likely to be in the rhythm of your services. Ram recommends having the spark plugs replaced no later than 50,000 miles. Therefore, if they weren't replaced at the 30,000-mile service, they should be performed again. At 60,000 miles, the 30,000-mile inspections should be done again to continue to ensure proper operation. As your vehicle approaches 100,000 miles, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve can begin showing signs of its age, making it a good time to have it inspected and replaced if necessary.
